Scheduling…

Today I posted a copy of our schedule. None of the times or location (home or away) are set in stone and will probably change multiple times throughout the season. However, the dates should be considered set unless there is weather involved.

I have sent e-mails to the coaches of the teams that we are playing to better set up the times of each game. Once I get responses I will upload the schedule again.

The plan is to play Varsity first since we will have a good amount of girls that will have to play both Varsity and JV because of our overall numbers.

WELCOME!

Welcome to Western Pennsylvania’s premier girls’ lacrosse team-Intrepid! Intrepid Lacrosse was created in 2005 by a group of dedicated, passionate volunteers whose entire focus was on furthering the development of girls’ lacrosse in Western Pennsylvania.

The mission of the club is to promote the growth of girls’ lacrosse, to field competitive teams by developing advanced playing skills, game knowledge, confidence, responsible decision making, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

TEAM STRUCTURE

The teams are structured according to the player’s graduating year in high school and the middle school team is comprised of rising 7th and 8th grade players. Our coaches follow a well-designed curriculum to assure that players are achieving specified skill benchmarks as they move from level to level each year. We will field one competitive team for rising seniors and one for rising juniors. For the rising sophomores and freshmen, we will select a competitive team and depending on registration / enrollment, we will have a second team that will be considered developmental. Membership fees for the developmental team will be adjusted based on the number of tournaments the team participates in.

COACHING

Our accomplished staff is made up of ten college coaches, including Ms. Gina Oliver, Gold Medal Winner at the Women’s World Cup, eight high school coaches and six college players. The colleges represented are Duquesne University, the University of Pittsburgh, Robert Morris University, Slippery Rock University and Washington & Jefferson; the high schools include Bethel Park, Chartiers Valley, the Ellis School, Mt. Lebanon, North Allegheny, North Hills and Winchester-Thurston; the college interns attend such schools as Duquesne, Ohio State, Pitt, RMU and Virginia.

Our experienced coaches provide position-specific instruction including the goal keeper. We maintain a 6:1 coach to player ratio which allows us to personally interact with every player. The team gets constructive feedback during practice and after each game. Each player receives a Player Evaluation at the end of the year which details her strengths and areas that can be improved.

TOURNAMENT SEASON

The Intrepid season begins at the conclusion of the local interscholastic season around June 1st. Teams practice twice weekly in June and July to prepare for tournament play in lacrosse regions such as Baltimore, New Jersey, Downingtown, and Syracuse. Each season the high school Intrepid teams will be participating in a minimum of 6 tournaments and the middle school team will play in 3 tournaments. The fall season is not as intense as the summer with regard to practice and tournament participation.

RECRUITING

For those players interested in playing at the collegiate level, the comprehensive Intrepid Recruiting Handbook and information posted on our web site contain vital recruiting information that can be put to use as early as the freshman or sophomore year. To augment our recruiting handbook each player is given a copy of The Draw Yearbook which contains pertinent and timely information on every college program nationwide. As players become rising juniors, the coaches will be more interactive with feedback on college selection and assisting with contacting college coaches. Exposure to college coaches at tournaments is vital to pursuing a collegiate playing career.

FEES

Membership dues for the 2010 season for high school players are $995. This includes 32 hours of practice instruction, four summer and two fall tournaments, complete uniform, recruiting instruction, special skill clinics, summer family picnic and year-end awards banquet. Dues must be paid in full by June 1st in order for the player to participate in practice and tournaments.
